This pattern helps you use up scraps if you want or you can plan your project. The 'strings' are the edges you trim off your fabric after you have washed & dried it. Each time you get ready to square up your fabric, take a little more off - 1"-2" - and throw it in a basket. You can't believe how quickly they add up. Now you have a pattern to help you use them up! This is done on a muslin foundation still using the Double Stitch.
